Nammu Ceramics

Cape Town, South Africa

Nammu is the ceramic practice of Jade (Say: Ya-deh), whose work is guided by an intuitive relationship with clay and a deep respect for the materials she uses. After graduating from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam in 2016, where her award-winning research project sparked a lasting love for ceramics, she relocated to South Africa and established Nammu in Cape Town.

Working alongside a small team of local ceramicists, Jade creates sculptural pieces inspired by ancient pottery, mythology and the raw beauty of South African clay. Embracing irregular textures, rich earthy tones and organic forms, each piece carries the subtle marks of the hands that shaped it.

What we love most about Nammu is Jade's ability to create objects that feel both ancient and contemporary. Her ceramics are timeless, grounding and tactile, requiring us to slow down and appreciate the beauty of natural materials.
