Castellano Beltrame
East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Castellano Beltrame's story began when Claudia's grandparents emigrated from Italy to South Africa, bringing with them the traditional craft of passementerie, which is the art of creating decorative trimmings, tassels and woven details. They established their business in East London, where they taught their craft to local women, bringing together European tradition and South African craftsmanship.
The name Castellano Beltrame carries its own family history: Castellano was Claudia's grandfather, and Beltram was her father.
Today, Claudia and her brother continue their family legacy on a smaller scale, working with a close-knit group of 12 women in East London, many of whom have been with the business for over 20 years. The wall hangings and chandeliers we stock carry this history of craftsmanship into the home as art pieces, to be displayed and loved.
What we love most about Castellano Beltrame is the generations of knowledge carried through their work. A craft brought from Italy decades ago continues to evolve in South Africa, sustained by the hands and skills of the people who have dedicated years to keeping it alive.
